Life under the Cobblestones

THE GARDEN / Between foliage and minerality, the garden at the entrance to the  l’enclos Saint-Césaire

…translates both a limitation and a history. The limitation: ensure soil permeability to preserve the fragile vitality of the hundred-year-old plane trees (classified as historical monuments). The history: that told by the archaeological remains still being excavated to reveal the largest early Christian cathedral in Europe (sixth century). Therefore, the ground will be alive: three borders in cobblestones, pebbles and decorative concrete sketch out curves and elevations, within a subtle, minimalist Mediterranean composition (landscape designer Julie Courcelle).
